Great Sacandaga Lake

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Great Sacandaga Lake

Post by Billy Bones »

Got the free use of a cottage for a couple of weeks in July on this lake in New York. Did some initial research and it seems to be well stocked
with Rainbow Trout and Walleye. Also some big Pike taken out of there. Does anyone have any first hand knowladge about
Great Sacandaga Lake.

Thanks

Billy,

I was there last year and saw some monster carp. I heard from the locals that the pike fishing is good. Unfortunately, I did not get to fish.

It's a beautiful lake.

They have a big fireworks over the lake display around July 4th that is awesome.
I stopped at the chamber of commerce building in the Johnstown area and they were helpful, so they might be able to give you some info..

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

I spent a week at a cottage there with 5 other guys pre-fishing and fishing the bassmasters '6-man' tournament. Worst bass fishing I have ever had. We fished every day, all day, for a week. We probably averaged about 1.5 bass per day per guy. We thougt it was just us, but then everyone in the tournament did about the same. Maybe it's good for other fish, but forget about bass. Also, they are marked well, but lots of stuff to hit too, so get a good map and/or gps. Seemed like a very nice area, but I dont ever want to fish that lake again.
