which rod would you buy and why?

With all the quality value/budget rods out nowadays which would or have you guys bought.
Reason I ask is I am considering a budget rod (under $100) and have a few in mind and was wondering what others would buy.

I already own one but I'd buy it again. A 6' 10" Shimano Clarus (MH, fast tip, 2pc for portability). I like this rod for it's solid performance, durability, it's a good rod for a wide variety of species, and I like Shimano's limited lifetime warranty. Can't go wrong for under $100.

I would say I would buy a Okuma evx series . Wicked light and lifetime warranty!

For $100 I'd buy a used Shimano Crucial, St.Croix Avid or something comparable.

Not sure what your quarry is or how you like to fish but I'd look at the St. Croix Mojo series rods if you're looking at buying new.

I'd bump it up to the $120 mark and get a Shimano Compre. Wicked light and they make a stick for every application.

If it was for musky or large pike, difficult to beat the Daiwa Heartland
Specialty series of rods in the price range you're looking for.

Try the 6'6". one piece rod rated for 20-40 lb line weight and 1 -5 oz lures.

Good for casting or trolling. And less-expensive at Le Baron ($61.45) than in the U.S.A.

I have seen these rods in use by a number of very knowledgeable and successful musky anglers down here in the 1000 Islands. One angler in particular has had his in almost constant use for over 5 years and swears by it.

Does anyone have any experience with the Rapala R-Type rods, Falcon Bucoos, Abu Vendettas or even a BPS Carbonlite?
I keep hearing that the Vendettas and BPS Carbonlites are very good rods for the price, I do hear the guides on Vendettas are suspect and I am not a fan of the guides on the Carbonlites.
Haven't really heard anything about the R-Type rods but they do have very good components, Fuji Alconite guides and a Fuji reel seat.
I haven't heard anythign about the Falcon Bucoos but I don't think they can be bought anywhere around here.

It seems Shimano and St.Croix have a tight hold on the Canadian market but for good reason because they both make quality products. I personally only like the Legend Tournament Bass series St.Croix makes and the Cumara Series of Shimanos.

I agree with RJ, can't beat a shimano compre (if you can spare an extra $20). I have two 2 piece models and 2 one piece models and there great. No complaints at all.

I'd have to say theres a lot of choices

Rapala Rtype series is impressive for the money

Shimano Clarus or Compre

St Criox Premiers are half decent too

I bought one of bps carbonlite rods 7'6" heavy and won one of the r-type they both seem pretty good in the back yard have yet to wet a line with them

Which R-Type did you pick up?
