Does anyone know if there is a decent boat ramp on Farren Lake?? Sent an email to the Farren Lake Property Owners Assoc. and was told there isn't.

Something smells rotten here since the MNR stocks a huge amount of Splake in Farren Lake...

Lots of lakes the MNR stocks don't have boat launches. But if the MNR stocks it, there will be an access point that will get you to the lake. Don't expect an access point to be anything more than a foot path where you could drag a canoe or a tinny. Some are better than that, many are not.

Nope, no boat launch.

The only public access site is the side of the road where the highway is close to the water. You can drop a canoe or tinney into the water but that's about all.

The number 28500 made be take a look at the Kemptville stocking list for the first time. That's a lot of fish stocked and I suspect they are fry. If they are stocking 28500 fingerlings, then that really does stink.

You can find the photo in the pdf. Seems too big for a fry and even a fingerling so I assume pic does not match stocked. Wouldn't they make splake fry in the fall ? (crossing the fall spawning brookie and lakers). Anyone know ? What size would these splake be by May ?

ya, i like that idea, should be one, once a month on these stocked lakes that the ppl that live around all think they own, just like redhorse lake, take as many pics as we could and have them put into the local papers, the looks on there faces......

im in and i will donate some prizes , really should advertise it in the local paper !

I agree that it is strange to stock a lake that is made pretty much inaccessible due to private ownership, but don't blame the cottage folk. It's the MNR decision to keep stocking the lake. The cottagers aren't going to question it. Would you? They're sitting there thinking this is bonus.

I understand that there's limited access. The lake is surrounded by private property and a lot of cottages.

Where the highway passes close to the lakeshore (the only public access), it is windey and hilly. Not a safe place for a boat launch with limited visibility and speeding traffic. There's also no place to park except on the side of the same highway.

They would have to acquire land elsewhere on the lake to put in a launch. Maybe that's what they should do. A cottage lot goes for a measly $100K.
