Well my girlfriend and I headed out to a new lake today to try for some walleye. Bluebird skies (clear water) and very light winds had me worried but we ended up getting a pattern together landing 6 fish in as many hours.
All of our fish were caught on jigging spoons on flats in the 35-38 foot range with one coming from over 40 feet of water.
What surprised us both was the amount of surface activity...big fish boiling all over the surface in 30+ fow all day in the sun. Even managed to sneak up on a school of 4-5 of these mystery fish cruising 3-5 feet down over 40 feet of water. The lake has a population of lake trout as well as whitefish but I don't know what the likelihood of these fish busting the surface is all day long in the bright sun in 55 degree water. Someone suggested they were walleye feeding on insects on the surface...
