Hi

I am giving my aluminum boat a face lift, it is 137 years old so I don't need to spend hundreds on it... Any tips on what type of marine paint to use or where I can get it? Tremclad from CT? I'd prefer to spary rather than use a brush. Pleaselet me know if you've had experience with this.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The Chandlery is the best (and only) place in the city I was able to find Marine paint. And the guys there are very helpful.

I wanted to paint my tin can, and he was telling me about oxidizing, and sandblasting... and I kept saying, where can I find a brush and a can of paint? lol.

i know my buddy had his old car topper sprayed with boxliner coating minus the stuff to make it rough...... the result was a leak free tinny with a very quiet hull even in rough water......

i know the body shop in Almonte will do a boat for 100 bucks and theres a few different colors to pick!

Just curious how much weight that spray on liner adds to the boat. As it is now i can just barely carry my 12 footer on my head. And i'm not getting any younger!

a pro painter would suggest you put current thru the boat and paint it with a special kind of paint.

i was going to do mine.

but she leaks to darn much.

Thanks a bunch guys, Chandelry it is! It is close to where I work as well. I would also like to know how much weight the box liner would add? Sounds pretty sweet.
Kevin, you can have the left over paint , maybe it'll plug some holes

That's what I did too. Emptied 4 cylinders of that stuff, in and outside of the tinny. Then painted right over top of it.

Something to consider......way back I used to have a 12 foot sterling tinny. Like all tinnys, they get banged around pretty good so it had all the traditional leaks.
One summer I got fed up, turned it over, and, using just my fingers I worked silicone in and under every seam and rivet. Don't think it took more than an hour. Held for years. Never had a leak afterward up until the day I sold it.

Its pretty tough stuff and takes a real beating without scratching.
Hell for $100 and you can swing it I'd go for that!

it would weigh 50 pounds more or so..... but totally worth it when you ride with bailing it out all the time and its available in a number of colors

i think its line x, phone devlin collision in almonte they do it and the price is right..... im not related or anything i just think they do good work.

I am tempted to go this route, but adding 50 pounds to only a 25 hrs power on a 14ft alum....not sure, it is already a bit pokey due to the casting deck I have in it......The good news is, as old as the boat is, it actually doesn't leak, in Kevin's language it leaks about 3.75 % which is totally liveable for me.. it is just a cottage rig, after 3 days in the water there is very little wetness in the bottom of the boat....

Out of another curiosity how much would the bed of a truck cost to get done? Probably the same or so?

i think the truck bed is more because they use the traction grit in it.....

i heard 350 for a truck bed but dont quote me on that......

my friend says its a pretty simple process....

and as far as it on the boat i dont think you would ever regret it.....
