Hey fellas/ladies,

So here's the situation.... i'm heading up to a lake for the long week end. I've never fished it before and there should be Walleye,Pike and bass. But as Bass is OOS we will keep it of the list of fish to target. The lake has a maximun dept of 5m (15.89ft). I've never fished a lake so shallow and wanted to target walleyes. Has anyonr ever had a similar situation... if so any tips what to use for lures.... Anyways any tips would help.

I've heard of people having some good scores with cranks and jigs at those depths.

I second that or maybe a fish (snap) weight with a worm harness...Look for and rivers or creeks coming into the lake a try and find them in the area...also be on the lookout for any structure that differs from the normal structure of the lake, it will be a walleye magnet....if you want to PM me the lake name, maybe I have fished it and could provide more tips

At that depth, chances are there are'nt any significant breaks or drops. In the event that are...fish them hard. If it is pretty much featureless, find the best concentrations of vegetation. Weeds are a super magnet for Walleye in featureless lakes.

As far as what to throw. One word....JIG!!!

I'll never know why people have to make fishing for Walleye so darn complicated with all the bells and whistles....guess the guy with the most toys wins......NOT!

What I'd bring along:

• Just a couple of slender bodied crank baits (maybe one that dives to 10 and another to 15) something like that

• some 1/8 and 1/4 oz. jig heads to tip with any 3" and under gulp powerbait

• I can't stand fishing worm harnesses but if you have the patience for that type of fishing they can't hurt to have.

PS make sure to give us an update on how you do, I'm interested on where you end up getting them on such a shallow lake.

I would not go out on a new lake and just start casting. If it is a lake you have never fished the best approach would be a bottom bouncer and spinner, as this will allow you to cover water and discover all the weed-lines, pockets, humps, bottom composition changes (sand, rock, mud) and any structure that may be within the lake. Once you spend some time going around the lake you can return to cast weed-lines with jigs or cranks and work any structure you may have found while pulling a bouncer.

I would think the level will be down from normal levels this time of year, but not nearly as bad as the rivers.

use a decent crank bait or jerk bait , Jig heads and tails work great so does live bait . Dont be afraind to try along shores as in shallow lakes they have a tendancy to move into shore for feeding .. Have never been skunked here ... also try a drop shot with a worm on it and pay close attention to it .. Good luck
