Muskie Fisherman Wannabe

Hey everyone,
I've always been a bass, pike and walleye fisherman for my whole life. Since joining fish-hawk I've taken an interest in muskie fishing. I don't know in what type of areas to find them, what tackle is needed or anything muskie related to be honest. I've been told they are known as the fish of 10,000 casts, which is relatively intimidating.
One thing I do know is that it would be a dream come true for me to catch one of these elusive beauties!
I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to help me out with this dream in any way they can, I would be forever grateful.

Well after 6 years of trying I caught my 1st last year. Good luck and try reading some back posts on this.

Check out one of the local Muskie Clubs. My fishing partner and I were in the same situation a couple of years ago-- just getting started and not sure of what to spend money on.

The Muskies Canada members are a great bunch of guys. Easy to talk to and loads of experience. That club meets the 2nd Wed of every month at the Legion on Moodie Drive. Just show up as a guest and check it out.

There are other muskie groups around as well - I'm sure it's the same story.

We ended up joining Muskies Canada and have put 3 respectable fish in the boat in a season and a half of targeting them.

Put your time in and you will catch them, for $500 bucks you will have a good rod and reel, then spend another $500 on lures and line. Then spend another $300 on a net and proper releasing tools. you can see where im going with this

. But honestly I was like you, grew up fishing for bass/pike/walleye but one day my buddy convinced me too go out with him for musky and ive been hooked ever since. I have been fishing for them now for 3 years and caught over 30 of them, with a couple being real brutes

. I would call them the fish of 200 casts. These guys are right, there is a lot of great info on this site and in the clubs, but i taught myself and it can be done. Good luck and send me a pm some time

Muskie fishing is a continuous learning process. I have been fishing them for 50 years and still don't claim to know all there is to know. Down here on St Clair we encourage newbies to the sport to get out on a boat with an experienced muskie fisherman. Offer to share the costs. Its the quickest way to shorten the learning curve and see what other people do and use for equipment. Don't hesitate to hire a guide for a day, one that is willing not only to take your money but also willing to teach and answer questions. Don't expect them to give up their honey holes but most will give you a good idea how to search them out.

i just started fishing for them last year and have had one blast 2 feet out of the water and a couple follow me to the boat
to see a fish that big come right out of the water really is something elce and i am now hooked
i will get one this year for sure i hope.....if someone points me in the right direction
who would be a good guide to hire on my strech of the water i need to catch one of these awsome fish

If you ever want to come out one day maybe we can get you and Peter in the boat and land some....I still owe Peter a MONSTER but it never hurts to have a new face...
