Looking to take the boat out this saturday. anybody have some suggestions on where to go? looking for some place within about 45 mins of ottawa

wheres a good spot on the ottawa? i live in aylmer anything good near me. i usually go on the rideau or mississippi.

You live in Aylmer and have never fished the Ottawa River at Aylmer?... Yet you'll drive that far to fish those spots?...wow.

For my buck the Ottawa River is the best piece of water to fish in the area.....for everything.

There is plenty of water for you to fish right there I'd say.

I really think guys are getting too "spot" orientated.....look for areas to fish then break em down.....all areas of the river will hold fish.....some more than others is all.

I agree with RJ on this one. If you can find a stretch of water that has it all... and the numbers are there, fish the crap out of that stretch of water. You will get more experience for when you go to different bodies of water. You will realize that if you fish a hump that goes from 30FOW to 4FOW real quick with a particular presentation one day with certain weather and seasonal conditions will get you results, you will have a good blue print for when you fish other bodies of water with similar structure.

I can tell you that Deschesne rapids have everything you could ask for. The only thing I don't like are the skeg and prop eating rocks. Launch from the Aylmer marina for something different. Or get real crazy and launch from Quyon! Real nice stretch of water up there!!

I'll give you a hint I was catching walleye on wednesday evening less then 5min boat ride from the Aylmer marina in 8-12FOW...give it a shot worst case you have all the sail boats to look at

I concur with the other lads, you have fantastic fishing right at your door. Lots of smaller walleye with the odd monster now and then. Explore right from the marina out to the main part of the river. Tons of spots. Get a copy of the navigation chart too because there are lots of shoals to hit.

The downside to weekend fishing on that part of the Ottawa is the boat traffic. The launch is busy, heavy fishing pressure on the popular spots and the boat wakes can keep your mind on the electric motor more than the fishing.

I was fishing around Quyon on Tuesday. Pulled in for poutine at McCann's (yum).
The launch looks in good shape but watch out for the very shallow sand delta sticking out of the mouth of the Quyon river on the downstream side of the launch. The delta has extended out in the Ottawa river quite a distance from last season, much more than you would expect.

where can you get charts in the city? the chandlery?

You did not say what size of boat you have. That is another thing to be careful about. Lac Deschenes can be quite treacherous when the wind picks up. Always keep the wind speeds in mind. I don't like going out when the weather network says winds of 15 kms or more. I just find it is not very enjoyable. The waves can be very high. It just becomes too dangerous. Maybe I am just being a wimp. I only have a 14 footer.
