Hello all,
My first post, though I have been lurking fairly habitually for the last 9 months since I moved out from BC.

Loaded up the boat, wife, kids and dog friday and headed north to Paugan Dam boat launch. Spent a bit of time and picked an island well away from the launch and set up camp. We spent about an hour just cleaning up the garbage around the existing camp site from the $#%^'n pigs that used it before, then settled in and tried to catch some walleye without any luck. But we caught a pile of rock bass right from the shore on our little island along with a couple of small mouths (immediately released) and 2 catfish. The kids explored another island the next day and my wife and I tried some more walleye fishing but only caught another rock bass. All in all, we never caught a walleye but had a blast just the same.
Gonna have to learn how to catch a walleye one of these days though!! Hahaha.

lots of walleye guys on this site that could help you with every tip and technique in the book.

the only thing you will have to do is go out and fish.

i actualy went to paugan dam today..was the water low down the dam.. .

i do like fishing the lower part..use to be there for 2 years few years back and we caught are share off walleye and sturgeons..in those little bays below the dams. for the walleyes and right at the dam for the sturgeons.

if you go up the river up to the lac st marie part..not bad fishing up there.

i think i will try a few bays down the dam soon.

I consider that stretch of water to be my "Home Waters"! Glad you enjoyed it and sounds like you left your part nicer than how you found it!! I camp out there too... nice at night in the late fall... you can hear the moose rutting at night!

Walleye are there. I found out from a local that they are deep. He was saying that they were staying in the 25 to 30 ft range. That is deep for up there... they are more often in the 15 to 20 range. In a recent tournament in the Paugan to Lac St Marie stretch, the winning walleye weight was 2.5 lbs. Last year my bud caught one on a Carolina rig in about 10fow that was about 3 to 3.5lbs.

There are eyes up there. Nothing eye popping but good eating.

Nice to see you pick up for lazy lazy pigs too. I try to leave no footprint so to speak. I net garbage I see floating and pick up what others have left behind.

Thanks again for the welcome. CPrince, is there another boat launch above the dam? I noticed as I was leaving after 2 nights parked there that there was a sign saying no overnight parking. (Though I did notice that we weren't the only ones parked at the launch overnight, Lol.)

There is a launch in Lac Ste-Marie (the town/village). It's another nice cement launch. Apparently, lately, you have to pay $5 to park your car, but that is likely to change by summer of 2011.

Lac-Ste-Marie is my playground. By comparison, I have fished that lake 10 to 1 compared to any other lake. If it swims in the Gatineau, or Ste-Marie, I've caught it (with the exception of the elusive brown trout... But I'll get one, eventually).

You can also camp at the launch in Ste-Marie.

Like Guinness Guy said... the next one that is public (That I know of!) is at Lac St Marie. And it IS $5.

There are a number of private ones that are all along Martindale Road. I know a couple, but they are of no use to me. If I go camping, my wife comes with me and takes the car home to Alcove, then picks me up when I call.

I know many people who have parked at Paugan for many days in a row... and no one harassed their vehicles... but there have been reports of vandalism.
