What is your style when it comes to casting.
this could also be for other fish.
musky, bass and/or pike what ever gets tight to the weeds.
For me I start in front of the bed. with a stop and go or a stedy retreive.
second cast. as im getting closer.
cast pass the bed and try to create a strike .
hitting the surface of the weeds , then at the weed line i stop and let the lure drop then reel her in, always paying close atention for a fallow.

I like to start at either end and work in front, i figure it's a good ambush spot for preds! If no results then maybe I'd throw in the bed.

So many options...
I would start by casting past the weeds and reeling the lure (a shallow running, compact shaped crank bait like a storm subwart, or a spinnerbait) over the bed to try and get a strike from any really active fish in it.
After working the bed this way I would switch to a weedless-rigged plastic-du-jour and cast to the near edges, and then work deeper into the bed with that same set up.

I try and cast past it but once I reel past it I slow down and let the lure drop a bit. I usually get a good hit if there is fish.

Burn a willow or french blade spinner just over the weedline back to front first.... Then slow it down with colorado blades along the edges

I will usually try to set myself up so that I'm casting parallel to the outer 1/3rd of the weed edge - stop and go, burn the lure or drop it into pockets depending on the structure, presentation/mood of the fish.
My favorite weeds - cabbage spaced about 1 to 3 feet apart with "dark" water (6 to 9 feet) around them - I find if I can find these kind of weeds, fish are virtually a guarantee.

Yeah that is true. If you can toss your lure right along the weed bed your just gunna flush em out.

I usually go top-water right in front of the weed bed and give a slow jerking retrieve. If there are any fish (usually pike) there along the outside looking in for the meal.
