Big Gull Lake week-end

We went to Kirk Cove Cottages last week-end at Big Gull Lake. We were very disapointed in the fishing and I thing we were expecting more of the cottages. The fishing was so bad, we were three boats, six guys and we fish for three days (10 to 12 hours per day) and we only caught one walleye and one pike!!! I know the weather is not great for fishing but I will not go back on Big Gull Lake for walleye fishing, unless convince otherwise that this year was exceptional... As for the cottages, we went to Crotch Lake (Tumblelodge) last year and personnally I think the cottages were nicer and bigger at Tumblelodge. The owners are very nice.

These boys seemed to do ok at Big Gull....50 walleye for a week of fishing:

we have tried everything (jigs, crankbait, single hook, bottom bouncer....) in every dept of water.... Even with talking with other guys there, it seem that no fish or almost were caught over the week-end.

8 guys fishing for a week on a body of water that they are familiar with and they manage 50 fish. When did that become OK?

It became "OK" in comparison to 6 guys fishing for 10 to 12 hours a day, for three days straight - and only putting one walleye in the boat.
49 fish more "OK"....
Never said it was incredible fishing - just that someone was catching them during the same time period as our poster, so they were there to be caught.

I hope some of those 50 fish were released, but judging by the pics I'm guessing that they may not have been. I hope the same guys never develop a taste for Big Gull Bass or Pike...

Oh man, that's terrible. Well its just a fact of not knowing the water body. I got skunked a lot fishing new water and I ALWAYS want to fish new water bodies. I haven't been to the same spot yet LOL ... always checking out new lakes or rivers. You have to accept you will get skunked sometimes. Good luck next time.

I have been hard at work here in my lab with my team and we may have some ground breaking news. It may seem crazy at first but hear me out on this one...We propose that if people notice a trend, a pattern where catch rates seem to be decreasing consistently each year that they try releasing more of the fish that do make it to the boat.
The idea is so crazy though we fear it may never catch on.
If that doesn't work we suggest going out as often as you can and keeping your limit, after all it's your right. As long as limits aren't exceeded the fish stocks should remain just as healthy as they do in remote lakes, untouched by man.
