st-lawrence bass tournament
went fishing last saturday and apparently a bass tourny was going on, came back after a couple hours and the weigh in's were done. was approached by a lady asking if we wanted any bass, being curious we asked why and she said most of all the bass weighed DIED. now is it just me or should this be NOT happening.

Bass in 60 FOW?!! I'm fishing way too shallow then.nips wrote:thats because they were probably caught out of 60 FOW, you here more and more stories of these tournaments with the dead fish that follow

I wonder what the water temperature is inside a livewell? Maybe that has an effect too.

The larry is the exception, we catch them bottom bouncing all the time
My undersized musky just ATE your trophy bass
Most of last weeks die-offs have little to nothing to do with the tournament(s).
there are currently articles in the Ogdensburg and Watertown papers regarding the smallmouth bass die-off on the American side. It seems the combination of spawning stress and the water temps rising 10-15 degrees in one week are the culprits. I was out yesterday and the water temp in the middle of the river was 78 degrees and some of the bays are touching 82. Before last weeks heat wave the temp of the main river was around 64-66.
If bass were dying at the release point that is another issue and the tournament directors should be made aware. Anyone know what series it was?
I side with Nips about catching deep fish and putting them in a livewell and 60ft isn't unusual for the St. Lawrence. Even if you fizz them they will probably get the bends and die eventually in a livewell.
