Fishing Big Clear Lake

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Fishing Big Clear Lake

Post by pchilli1 »

All,

Anyone venture into Big Clear Lake (Arden Ont?).

Heading up in a few weeks and hoping to make time for a fish.

PM if you prefer.

Cheers,

P.

I've been out a few times. Very clear waters as the name suggests. Good weed growth and structure to flip on the West edge, and deeper water to the East. If you are launching from the main launch by Arden, try around the island just up from it. Great rock structure, and some nice deep slopes to bounce some jigs around.
There is a nice shallow bay to the south, averaging 6 feet in depth, and some pads at the end that can be flipped and frogged.
You'll find some smallies and walleye if you troll west-east along the deeper edge across the lake. There are two humps in the middle, that go from 80-20ft and back down again. I've had luck trolling back and forth during evenings.

I haven't nailed any lunkers in the lake for bass, but the habitat is there. Unfortunately, its a pretty developed lake, tons of cottages, and a very large amount of weekend warriors out with their jetskis and ski boats, so the fish retreat a fair a bit.

Good luck.

Hi, keep in mind that Little Clear has a good stocking of Rainbows!
However, it has a very bad road in and the down to the lake is dreadful.
But, it holds some nice Rainbows.
Good fishing, have a great time wherever you go 8)
