This is my first ever post about fishing, hope some enjoy.

So this is how the year starts, I nail 7 muskies in the first three trips of the year with my buddy Jamie (Renegades66) who's been my fishing partner for the better part of 30 yrs. Here is a release shot, only included cuz it's a neat shot.

Well, since then here is what I've caught.
Image

On vacation for 2 weeks I try my luck at the cottage on Lake Clear, fishing with the family, my daughter Maddy caught about 600 rock/smallmouth bass, she loves it, wants to release every single fish herself, I don't bother wetting a line for fear of stepping on fallen dew worms, or being struck in the noggin with the Spongebob Rod, instead I bait hooks, unhook fish and threaten to throw kids in the water if they don't behave.

The Walleye was Maddy's first trolling, in 15fow on Lake Clear about 2 wks ago. Bad pic but you get the idea, 21' long.....I wish I could say it was safely released, unfortunately the only safety here was that I never cut myself fileting it, she is an old pro now, she knows we harvest a fish or two a year, the rest go back.

This is my other daughter Maya's first couple of fish on the spongebob rig, they are only the chain as we forgot the camera on shore.

Ok. back to the big Girlz, Jamie and I head out for a vicous pounding of the Ottawa, we go all day with sfa, until our 10th hour he hooks into this gem, 42" of sheer body.

Image

Check out the cigar burn ontop of his head, this was from a Lamprey, the mark closest to his schnoz was right down to his bone white skull. Jamie had been slumping a bit, this was a great fish.

Image

Back to lake Clear, just my wife and I go out for a late night run at some big eyes, not the cookie cutter 17"-22" that the lake is known for, we hit one of our A spots at about 9:00pm, 22' feet of water, Bang! heavy hit, it starts to Jump :?: wtf :?: it continues to take her line, stays down, okay that was weird Walleye normally don't break the water, it's pitch black and we here another jump....keep reeling this is too weird :? Finally it comes into the boat light and it is a frying pan size smallie, I net it for her.. whaaaa, look at this thing. 4 pounds of pure fight. What a warrior, these are the fish I grew up catching here, they have always aluded my wife but now she finally has her own "football"....Just a beauty. She was giddier than a GI-Joe figure in a basement full of naked barbies.

I love getting fish in the boat, and fishing as a team, but with all the excitement of landing trophies, I start to get jacked about feeling the tug of a beast on my line.
Clownshow fishing partner Jamie and I hookup for an end of vacation shot at a giant muskie...We hit the raging Ottawa river, it's starts off terribly, we beach the boat right of the cuff in 4ft vicous waves at the launch due to a quick stall, suffer some minor damages to bottom of Jamies boat, after 10 min of pushing the boat off the rocks, we head out. Working the trolling motor immediately gave me a pair of soakers free of charge..The Nike shocks did not stand up very well to the 4 ft waves. It was steady constant wind, unbearable at times......but we had steady action all day and contacted several fish on both cast and troll. First strike of the day came from Jamies end, I reach for the net again, it is automatic now, I work a legendary net :D . Start our day out with a mid 30's, nice fish

Image

Homage to Rick Collin. You can clearly see this fish is amused that Clownshow fishing would drive 1.5 hours for a 35" fish :P

Image

Couple more strikes on the troll that didn't stick, we get another one that did, great battle, and once again Jamie was in another dog fight, Michael Vick style with a big fish, the netting at this point come quick and fast again, quick measurement, quick pics, she was off again...

Image

This fish is smiling at Jamies green pants. Homage to Rick Collin.

Great day on the water despite the weather, the end of day launch was much smoother than the morning launch.

Congrats to all the anglers in this report. Vacation is over now, back to being a weekend warrior.

24/7 - Someone said in another post "take what you can get in musky fishing"...very true

We've found June and Sep to be our biggest numbers month, our biggest fish are also from the same months. We have only been at musky fishing for 3 seasons, we have yet to find them in Nov/Dec....we have a couple in Oct. This year we will be trying something different in the cold months to see if we can boost the #'s
