Labor day frustration and satisfaction

What started as a frustrating day ended not too bad.
With a first time muskie angler with me today I really had hopes of making the day fun and interesting for Kevin. Plus it would make for good conversation at the rink as his daughter is on the same Midget BB hockey team as my daughter.

We started with a troll but in 10-15 fow there were no fish to be seen so with the warm days lately and blue skys this morning I decided to hit the shallows for some casting to see if we could move a fish or 2.

First cast has a mid 40's fish come in hard on my bucktail but wouldn't have anything to do with a figure 8, second cast nothing.....third cast a under 40"er again comes in hard and wouldn't play nice....forth cast nothing....fifth cast a big fish.....probably 50+ comes in hard again mouth open and wouldn't take the bait or even figure 8. :x

By this time I'm like....what the heck do I have to do???

We circle back and do another pass and then some genius in a pontoon boat goes flying by me...less than 75 feet off my bow over the weedbed right where I was casting and when I raise my arms in disgust....he flips me off!!!!

So we move...

It soon clouds over and starts to rain, and gets windy (did I mention I hate wind  ) so we continue the quest for weedbed muskies.

We have a couple of blow ups and by now I have resigned myself to the fact that today was going to be one of those days

But alas.. this 42" fish absolutely pounds a topwater.....does three awesome massive jumps, 1 right at boatside about 4' out of the water and then Kevin does a pro job with the net.

During the fight I noticed a bit of gill damage but it stopped bleeding fast and seemed no worse for wear while swimming off strongly.

Kev saw his first muskie, we saw lots of others, great fight and a picture...man I love Muskie fishing

Nice fish Matt. Still waiting for one on a top raider.....that actually stays on and doesn't just make a huge tease splash.

Can I just say how much I am loving the muskie reports lately?

I am just itching to get out there (once I get my get out of jail free card) and these great reports are giving me high hopes.

Great job.
