Soon enough and we will be on the ice again. Just wondering if you folks ice fish for crappie on the rideau. I fish for them in the spring but would like to catch some through the ice. Not asking for spots just some info on depth and type of structure, and is it illegal to make some fish structure and sink it in the river?

As for sinking stuff in the river, I don't know if legal, but wouldn't do it, it would be nicer to find where they are instead. Ask around - you'll find the general areas.
I occasionally fish Lower Rideau lake for Crappie, have a few spots in my GPS near the "village" by Stonehouse. The plowed "road" is a real bonus when the snow gets deep. :D Not the river, sorry.

Long Island Locks is a popular spot, low side...they move frequently around the deeper holes, although I did notice they were dredging there this summer, so we will see what happens this winter. Best early morning and right at dusk!

I've caught them through the ice on the Rideau but it's always been hit or miss...last ice season was mostly miss (for me anyway).
