Lochabaer Bay is private property????

How can Lochabaer Bay be private property? There's a big sign at the entrance to the bay in Rockland advising no hunting or fishing...yet when I talked the guy guarding the bay, he said they're expecting "a bunch of duck hunters" soon. So is it just a duck hunting guide that puts up a real official looking sign to keep the fisherman out of the bay so his guys can shoot some waterfowl?
I don't get it.

Lol, here we go again.

Because of the duck hunters. Lots of talk on here regarding Lochaber in the past and the duck-hunters that use this bay. I think the general consensus was that it sucks for the bass-guys but they should be allowed to have their fun in that particular bay, for a couple of months a year. The Ottawa is big and has room for everybody.

I duck-hunted alot on the Ottawa and it really sucks when a bass-boat pulls up in your bay and starts flipping, happy to see a partial solution to the problem.

It is possible that a guide has secured rights, not sure what how Quebec regs work.

It's beneficial to our hunt when people are fishing the other side of the lake, as they flush the ducks up and we get more flyers - esp during the mid-day doldrums.

Where we duck hunt, anglers stay clear of the area around the duck blinds out of respect for our hunt. No signs required here, it's been that way for years. Its not too hard to get along if we all just respect.

Duck Hunting season is much shorter than Bass season so let's give these guys a break and let them enjoy there short lived season. Yeah Lochaber is a bass magnet but the Ottawa has other good spots i am sure.

There is another solution ... fish in a yak !!! No noise and the ducks don't seem to mind me much unless I get really close. Well I suppose this is not really a practical solution but I figured I'd get a plug in for the yak whenever I can.

My take ... hunters carry guns ... I carry lures ... guns hurt more than lures ... the guns win ... therefore the hunters win ... me leave da hunters alone so I don't get an butt of buckshot !!!

I realize that was jest, but it's not an accurate portrayal of hunters in general. No hunter I know would allow their shot go anywhere unsafe.
Ducks and geese are the only beings that should be worried when I'm duck hunting.

It's been like that forever, the fisherman have it from June untill September then it's the hunters turn.

I remember fishing in there during the hunting season and a lot of lead was flying even when no birds were seen, as well as been told by many to actually have some pellets land in their boats.

I would just stay out as already mentioned your lures have nothing on shotguns. LOL

BTW the sings are put up by local hunters trying to keep others away that's all.

Simply boils down to a group of Redneck Hillbilly duck hunters...trying to Bully the fishermen from not entering the bay....

If duck season opened on the 26th of JUNE lets say......they would have that sign up at the enterance of the bay

BTW.....

Saturday Sept 18th right when the Rockland Rumble was in full swing.....

I thought that any water deemed navigatable by a water vessel is not private property. As far as respect and common sense are concerned.....GOOD LUCK!...it is'nt that common in this day and age.

I'll never go anywhere near that place so that eliminates any possible issues......see....problem solved

You're right Slop, if it's navigable it's fair game. Common sense would dictate if you're going to fish Lochaber at this time of year, better make sure it's during the afternoon when those quebecker hillbillies have drank themselves to sleep.

So here's what I've been told.

Lochabaer Bay (Known in Rockland as Molson Bay) is owned by Molson Brewing. They have exclusive access to the Bay but are nice enough to let people in to fish until waterfowl season opens.

I doubt the legitimacy of that.

I doubt it to, they might own the land around the bay, but the water is ours (all canadian citizens).

I have a favourite parking spots at home depot, canadian tire and walmart. Unfortunately even if I was to put up a sign saying it is reserved for me and me only. I doubt anyone would stop using it so that it there for me when ever I go.

The whole thing is a bit of a "rock, paper scissors" and I think the regulations favour the hunter in the end. As it's against the law to scare off wildlife or interfere with a legitimate and legal hunt. Bass fishing that bay while a hunters are in their blinds, could be viewed as obstructing their hunt.
