October 19th On NASA - How Much Tackle Can I Loose In A Day?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

October 19th On NASA - How Much Tackle Can I Loose In A Day?

Post by cprince »

Reading Kevin and DS'ers report gave me the delusion that I could do that too.... You know... catch a BIG fish or 612.... so I got my check list out and headed out!

Check 1 -

Chores done? Did I feed the damned cows?

ImageImage
ImageImage

9 Bales of hay.. CHECK!

Did I get the ice out of the boat?
Image

Is it a GORGEOUS fall day?
Image
You Betcha!!

Step 1 - Throw jigs at the pigs... and hang on...?

No pigs...
Image

Not quite the Kevin-esque piggy I was looking for...

Step 2 throw tubes?

NOTHING!!!

Step 3 through 37... throw everything you've got into the lake and hope for the best?

CHECK!!

Pike... lots of pike...
Image

Sons of guns bit off EVERY tube jig I had... and I had 5!!!! That is why I switched to spinners.

And I caught 8 largies in the span of about 30 minutes.

ImageImage

NOT ONE SMALLIE!!

Give my head a shake and try again next time the wind dips bellow 40KPH.

Friday maybe...!

Don't fret it Craig - at least you are able to be out fishing..... :(
Too many family obligations for me right now to even get a sniff....and way-2-busy at work to even think about taking a SICK day....

GR8 pics for flying solo...8 LMB in 30-mins is not bad at all

Hey Craig....

Good results on a tough day. My day today in Quebec was a carbon-copy of yours. Andy and I were only able to put 10 bass in the boat, and only one fish of significant size. Winds were mighty gusty....and fish seemed very scattered.

Tough 'ole go, but a fun day out nonetheless....

Oh, one little tip - trim the weed guard down on that flipping jig. Your hooking percentage will go way up..

Good Fishing,

Thanks for the comments guys!

BTW... the water temp was 50 to 51 F and I was catching the LMBs sitting on 4.5 FOW casting into 7 to 10 FOW. I jigged in mostly 25 FOW... casting into shore lines and walking it down to the 25...

The deepest part of the lake is 30 feet, but it is not a hole, just painfully gradual flat muddy bottom... the wind didn't play nice for me to be sitting on that spot... so I didn't hit it!

@ Justin
I did eventualy trim that one... weed gaurd too.. I found it too stiff. Just when I got it the way I wanted it, a pike bit it off.

That happened twice with the bass jigs and 5 times with the tube jigs!!

I am quite sure I missed a couple at first with all that extra skirt and weed guard on them... Thanks bud! I do wonder where the Bronzies went though...

@ BA... they know me....!

@ the nuts...

Meat will be about $3.50 per lb cut and wrapped... coming soon!

Hey Craig,
We can't always expect to catch the big ones out there every time but he have to enjoy the time on the water. Trust me, I know for a fact, that it's WAY better than working. Next time you'll just have to fall in the water like I did and maybe the fishing gods will be on your side for the day. Or you can just give me a call and I'll help you lure those hogs to the boat.

Nice report though!

Looks like a nice outing either way!

Have you ever gone to that lake a targeted pike? I love catching gators!

It started out this year hitting rockets on that lake. Never got anything over 5lbs. I just talked to a local last week who is one of only two others I have seen fish this lake more than once.. he targets pike. He trolls around all morning and has caught a few 12 pounders this year.

I just might go after them... it is just SOOooo much fun hitting bass!!

Hey Craig, my outing last weekend was IDENTICAL to yours minust he pike bite offs.

I threw senkos, tubes and soft plastic jerkbaits to no avail. Switched to spinnerbaits and nailed 8 bass or so and 6 pike in an hour.

maybe there is something to it, maybe not.

Hey Craig

Finished my chores as well and decided to go hunt some Muskie. Got one baby one (28 inches) on a topwater in 3 feet of water. Took the
bait right next to the boat and got the old heart pumping. Could hardly control the boat with the wind gusting to at least 40 KPH.

Saturday, Sunday & Monday looks like sane wind days @ 5 kph. Just some rain to deal with. As long as it is not Monsoon rains, I will be fine!!

Billy, boat "Control" was not a real option. I had to position myself in a spot that would be a good starting point for the wind to drift me along a good line. Only problem was the swirl factor with the mountains around me!!!

Honestly... I would take these problems over real ones any day!!
