Frozen hands and a Muskie to boot.

Well the guy I was to go out with decided not to go due to the cold weather but another friend of mine filled his place and we went off in my boat in search of the glorious muskie...or is it musky??

Anyway we trolled and cast and trolled some more with no luck. The water was still a little cloudy from all the rain we have had so I am blaming the lack of fish on that. It of course had nothing to do with my fishing abilities

Anyway hour 4 with barely a feeling left in my hands we decided to cast for our last 30 minutes and within 6 casts by a small island that went from 3ft to 23ft we did it. Out I casted my 8" silver black with red hook believer and low and behold I am a believer now. ***SMASH***...never saw a splash like that in my life...baitcaster is zooming out line and my rod is buckled over. This one feels huge. Start fighting it and I am thinking to myself that either I am so weak from the cold that I can not bring this guy in or it is huge. Well lets just say after a few minutes of fight we noticed that we had a double hook up on one lure. A nice 37" muskie and an even bigger 73" birch tree branch. All I have to say about that is thanks Pauly for leaving the power pro on the reel. So we get the beauty to the boat side and get the camera out for some pics of it in the water. My buddy hands me the camera to turn on etc and I decided to snap a pic of it sitting in the water. Well this is where the day gets expensive. I come in close to the fish to get a nice shot of the front of it with the lure in the mouth and it thrashes in the net and scares the bejeebers out of me. With my hands so cold I jumped back and my camera went back further then me and ***SPLOOSH*** new structure for the fish :x

I just dropped my Cannon power shot into the river.

Side note: I am about 3 miles from where I lost my rod and reel on my wedding day...

So unfortunately I did not get any pics of the fish and now have to buy a new camera. If you are around the long island out of Breaside and hook into a camera it's mine.

So my new pb of 37" of muskie and 73" of birch tree. Was it worth it. Well since my boat is away for the season I can say from my point of view it was but my wife...well she would tell you different.

I hope you marked the spot with a GPS. That memory card is recoverable... so at least you can get the pics on it.

That is a heck of a story. I love these type of tales. Perfect fishing lore! You know you are going to get razzed for this one for a while big guy!!

That is one expensive stretch of water. I think you have presented sacrifices sufficiently to the Fishing Gods in that area. It might be time to change deities. This one ain't letting you feel the love!

As for picture I am sure I pushed the button before I washed it. I do know the exact spot as it was directly in front of the cottage on the island. About 15-20ft out from it. With the current at 2km/hour and a drop of around 20ft the distance from original drop area will be about 300ft from splash down. Well that is in theory of course. I was more impressed with the birch tree being on there and not pushing the muskie off the hook. I just used the believer because of you Rob and now I am a believer. Thanks

Well Eddy it is very simple. I just said " I am going fishing on our wedding day and there is nothing you can say to change my mind." Once that was said and done I walked away from the mirror and went on my hands and knees and begged her to let me go.

Someone could open a really good tackle and clothing store with all the stuff I have sitting on the bottom of the Ottawa River.

Several of us here have the Fuji WP camera. It's a fairly inexpensive camera that takes good pics and vids. I have this particular model.
