Shirley's Bay Ice Report

I stopped by to see how much ice there is and to my surprise the river was frozen right across to Aylmer. I didn't have an auger, nor did I feel like venturing out too far. I walked out onto the ice to about Balls deep water depth and the ice was pretty solid (balls stayed dry

) . That would be 20 yards off shore That's it. I am in no way implying that the ice is safe to venture onto!
I did notice a bit of an issue though. A large ice pile has formed across the entrance point. I guess the wind blew some fairly big pieces in when it was first freezing up. I don't know if a plow can smash it up... A back hoe would..... But no one is driving over it.
With this cold temp - a couple of weeks and we should be good to go. If anyone has any ice reports regarding Shilrey's bay post them on this thread. Stay safe, it's worth the wait.

Just keeping this up - Bump
&& I'm not heading out on the ice yet! If you do, wear the proper material and have an "out plan".

I guess you are not expecting to find much under the tree tomorrow and will have more luck looking under the ice?

Gord... That is a GREAT way to report ice conditions! If you are willing... give a GPS coordinate so we know exactly where that measurement was taken.. of course... unless that is a some what of a secretive spot.

Just got back and there was 8-9" of good ice.
Didn't mark any fish but was still nice to get out.
