Friday night at the game, my phone rings. It's my buddy - wondering if I'm hitting the ice Sat morning? Well yes I am!!
This morning came early... on arrival at the lake, drilled a few holes, ... then light pillar announced the sun would soon be up to take the nip out of the air.

The bite was slow at first, landed two small lake trout by 11:30am. Then, just before noon, I hooked the first decent fish of the day. The line stopped dead on the lift, then all heck broke loose!!

Combination freight train / bulldog - this one had some weight and was full of vigor!! The Med-Heavy ice rod had a good bend, and I gained on him, only to have a drag pull right back down to the depths. 2nd time up - got the head into the hole and flipped this fella airside.

At 7lbs 2oz, this is my best laker so far this ice season. One fish that turned a mediochre day into a GREAT DAY!! :D

Good luck tomorrow in La Belle Province...

attaboy, Len!

I pulled up a pair on Loughborough on Thursday, and both of them would fit in that one's belly!

Black back = orange flesh?

Sutton West River spoons used to be "THE" lure for jigging up Owen Sound splake in the winter. Gold one side, silver on the other, with a real slow flutter.

I have used them for lakers here in Eastern Ontario, without any success. Yet........

[ Gold one side, silver on the other, Doug[/quote]

Hi Guys, I fished the Pemi & 31 for 18 years when the lakes were open, the only spoon I used was the West River, the spoon with the gold side is useless, the one you want is the spoon wih the silver on one side and the other is the copper color!!

Beleive me they work!! also in the spring>>>
