I'm not 100% sure I can make it out this weekend but it's not because I don't want to. Fishing for big whities through the ice is something I've never done before. But I'm going to the Brad Paisley concert that night. Don't know how much fishing I can do if I want to make it back for the concert.

Somethings in the air, every time I look around.
Somethings in the air, every sight and every sound.
And I don't know if I'm being foolish
Don't know if I'm being wise
But it's something that I must believe in
And it's there when I'm checking my line!
Holy Moly, now we're going further up north!
Pretty sure I'll partake.

CPRINCE or BA.
Can you tell me if the plan is to drive unto the lake or walk?
Is there a clear path to some fishing areas?
I believe that Paul has been there before.
I am trying to get a better feel as to logistics.
Thanks,
Daner

The plan is to drive to the site. While the ice on this lake is generally last to freeze, last year we went there January 2nd and there was open water;

But it was frozen over and we had a report on by February;

There is a backup plan if the ice is STILL not safe; Roddick. It is close by!

Hi Cprince;
Thanks for the info.
It appears to me that autos... should not venture out unto the ice!
Although last year was a warm winter and we have had a good cold spell,
is there a way to get the near current ice conditions?
Do you or BA have a planned area to fish at?
Would we have a back up lake just in case?
It would be a shame to have people travel all that way for nothing.

Sounds like good fun. It has been ~20 years since I tried my luck for whitefish.
Not sure I can make Sunday but keep me posted!

What kind of tackle would be needed if I decide to go. It might be a last minute decision

I'm sure BA & Craig will get back to you.
But in the meantime, Google ice fishing for whitefish.
Small spoons, jigs off the bottom.
Nothing too elaborate.

If I remember correctly... the same thing he posted for trout. Cleos and as Daner said, small-ish spoons.
We tipped them with Gulp... and as 24/7 would say; It was NUMBER ONE!
