Am I the only one??

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Am I the only one??

Post by Seabass81 »

Whenever I have a big tournement or fishing trip planned I cannot sleep a win the night before. Most of the time there is a long drive required at some odd hour of the morning.

No matter how hard I try I cant sleep. This does not usualy effect me on the way there but on the way back I am toast.

Anybody have this problem? Any trick of the trade?

I have a earlly morning departure coming in 2 weeks and have to drive 4.5 hours

Ahh, the excitement and anticipation.

Make sure you have your plans and program mastered/well organized.
This will allow you to feel at ease knowing that you have done all there is to have a well planned trip.

Don't go to sleep in different to your normal habits.
If you can't sleep, don't sweat it, just dream of the good times you are going to have. You will sleep lightly!

Once you have arrived at the site and are having a great time, if you can, take a nap. This will rejuvenate you.

Now if you can, stay the night, that way you can push the limit without any worries.

Hope this helps you sleep. Unless my writing this has already put you to sleep!

I'm usually like that for any fishing trip.
When I do eventually fall asleep, I'm casting and jigging in my sleep... then I wake up from time to time when I hook into the big one.
By the time I actually get up I haven't slept much but I'm pumped and ready to go.
By the time I'm leaving the water/ice that evening, I'm also ready to go... to bed.

Sorry John, I got no tricks for you.

Good Luck though! :D

worry less about falling asleep the night before and concentrate on taking a double shot of 5-hour energy chased with an XL triple triple for the way home... works for me everytime. One word of caution: your right foot tends to get a bit heavy on the way back.

It's not the excitement that keeps me from sleeping, it's the fear of sleeping in and not waking up or being late. There is nothing that pi$$es me off more than not being on the water for sun up.

Next trip, I will take some advice from this thread.

Before sex.
Two shots of scotch.
Sex.
After sex
Two shots of Nyquil.
As I hit the pillow, a 50 of Gravol.

Packed in lunch: a double shot of 5-hour energy chased with an XL triple triple.

Re-reading that it seems I'd be out cold for two days so I would miss the trip anyway.

I used to have that issue and it was tough.....

Now since I pretty much know I'll be fishing both days over the weekend the "excitement" factor is gone a little bit....and I sleep like a baby.
