A Near Drowning at 31 Mile Lake Today.......SERIOUSLY !!!!!!

Can't get any closer to drowning than a Bunch of us did today

But lets not worry about the little things in LIFE for now

After meeting up with the Gang at the Restaurant......and mowing down the Lumberjack Special

Image

We headed out to the Lake in question . Once there , Cprince edges me on to drive out onto the lake 8) 8) 8)

A kilometer later we look back and no one else is behind us

So we go ahead and start drilling holes = 8'' of ice

Slowly but surely the rest of the Party begins to show up , Wallyboss lowers his Vex in one of the holes = 21 feet deep.........The plan was to work the shoal outwards towards the deep , when the last hole was drilled , the VEX read 45 ' ......the ice read 4'' thick :? :?

Soon after we were all setup and jigging away ........The wrong kind of fish came out play.........LAKERS :x :x :x

Again and Again I would shake them off at the surface...Man those things are Annoying

I get the bright idea to head across the lake to the real HOTSPOT for whities . Hotspot in more ways than one... ( I'll get to that part in a minute )

Len AKA Gettinjiggywithit and I pack up the 700 Grizzly and storm across the Lake , when were about 100 feet from the '' HOTSPOT ''.........   ...........Open water.......as in Soft water.............liquid.......water that requires a boat to fish safely from

It will be awhile before heading back to 31 mile

Anyway a Big thanks to Daner for suggesting I chum my holes with Bird Seed.....

Several Whities were caught today But , Unfortunately the Lakers stole the show

I had a great time too!

I didn't catch anything but grief from Bass Addict... but MAN!! What a great time! I think everyone hooked up except for me and Dan!

Next time...

Here are a couple of shots that ended up like "Behind The Scenes" type shots but good enough to give you all a feel from my perspective!

Here is Beachburger with his biggest platter of breakfast in The Gatineau Hills... contemplating his colonoscopy footage... and wondering what the heck Créton is!!
Image

The best I could do at a group shot... only two of us not shown! One is behind Walleyeboss!

Lonnie hooking up...

Had a great time boys! Thanks to everyone who came out.

Dang that lumberjack special's lookin' good right about now....

Looks like it was fun... probably a scary lake to ice fish on I imagine.
Like when I see people climbing over the ice floe piles and keep walking ...

It was a great day and it was good to put meet a few more F-Hers in person. Thanx to Craig and BA for lugging us guys out there.

The OOS laker I caught was a rush because it was my first ever laker (even though it doesn't count). I'm still looking for a BF whitie so I might have to make the trek back in the not too distant future. The day ended with a bit of an adrenaline rush. As Dan Smyth mentioned in the other thread, my truck was in water half way up the wheels on the driver side (the passenger side was fine). I think I'll park on dry land next time.....

And for those of you who wonder how I stay so svelte, I had brown toast.

great report, looks like a good time! I was on Muskrat on Sat adn Sunday and only caught a few perch...... Although I reused the same minnow three times on my jig and he was still swimming at the end of the day hahah. Should of brought him home, he was lucky (or unlucky from his point of view hahaha)

Hey Paulie, I am glad you took up my advise, congrats.
But what I really meant was the hole/s under your nose.

All kidding aside,
did you know that if you had off put less bird seed in the hole you would have caught more and bigger whitefish.
You see, the fish know that there is a bird above, and that prompts them to bite. They live to eat birds! But only one at a time!! And small ones!!!
But if they see too much seed, then that lets them know that there are too many Hawkers/Birds waiting to catch or prance on them.
But Paul, as you get older and gain more experience, you'll learn.

Make any sense?

Sorry I couldn't get out w/you guys, had a last minute date w/my kid!

Next time.
Daner

Sounds like a good time had by all.

Looked as though the temps were a little more reasonable this time.

For the people not there, and for people who may be going this weekend perhaps you can all elaborate on the bad ice conditions?
