Hi

Just wondering if anyone could give me a few tips where i can icefishing for some walleye, pike, or panfish, on the St.Lawrance....i do a lot of fishing with the boat in the cardinal area, but, i know theres lots of fast water there....any tips would be appreicated....!!

for pike and perch check out the canal in cardinal down by the legion and bridgeview marina in johnstown. also i'm sure there are a few spots guys are fishing that you could see from the road if you head east along hwy 2 from cardinal. a call to carpins in ingleside might help too.

I caught 5 walleye this morning in an hour, all were too small to keep though, which is strange but at least something was biting. Send me a pm and I could point you in the right direction, as long as you don't mind some thin ice

Hi guys . I used to go to a derby in Johnstown many years back in Feb. I think . Does that pike derby still happen ? Used to be good way back . tks

The islands/bays of the Long Sault Parkway, between Ingleside and Long Sault, are a good starting point, and the ice is safe. If you drive along the #2 in that area you'll see a small village of huts just outside Hoople Bay. Unfortunately the parkway itself is under repair and is gated off for the season, so it's a long walk to some spots.

Beyond that you have to search for sheltered spots here and there because the current makes it impossible--or unwise!--to fish much of the river. Right now it looks like much of the river is iced over, but I suspect that it's a pretty thin sheet in many places.

Again, it's worth taking a look 'n see drive along the #2, because many of the places that are fisheable are visible from the road.
