I started out this spring soft water season on the St lawrence with hopes of boating a few walleyes early on. Ive been jigging, crankin, pulling spinners being bottom bouncers, driftin, rippin the weeds, dead stickin...... tried it all... no walleyes as of yet in the boat ( allthough I have caught a few beauties while casting cranks from my favorite shore spots),. I have landed a few decent pike, a few OOS smallies and largies, and there nice perch

all in pursuit of ol marble eye !

Being in a bit of a funk.... maybe due to low water temps or bad luck this season.. my cousin has convinced me to try carp fishin this spring  I was a little aprehensive at first, never fishin for those large beasts, thought it was a sport better left to the englishmen that come from the uk to fish those overgrown goldfish. Well I didnt want to invest too much money in to carp fishin rite away so i used my 9' dipsey rod with okuma linecounter spooled up with 17lb mono, i just had to buy a bank stik, bite alarm, a bolt rig n some boilies.

We drove around the long sault parkway looking for a spot that looked a bit Carpy and settled on a bridge on the west end..... well lets just say we both had our lines in the water from 2pm till 4:30 pm.... we never had nothing to show.... then my cousin says... " Billy I think we are going to get skunked here today"..... no sooner than the words came out of his mouth my bite alarm was screaming hahahahahah!!!! I looked at my line counter and fish had ripped 300 feet of line out before i got my rod in my hands!!! I thought i had a baby dolphin on my line!! any how after a 15 fight we got the buggar in... I was so would up we never weighed him but it was prob 25-30lb the pic doesnt do it justice. ANYHOW..... I will keep fishing for the old marble eyes... BUT.. after that day Carp fishing with my cousin I am definitly getting some carp gear for fathers day I think!!

Nice fat first carp jj.

I think it's funny when some fishermen say that walleye fishing is easy. Well... it isn't!!! On a good day, sure you can boat a dozen but on the next, you can easily go home skunked. Nothing easy about walleye fishing. Keep at it though, you'll hook into them soon enough. :handgestures-thumbup:

Carp is a "garbage" species... as in they pull like a garbage truck!
Haha nice tank, congrats! 8-)
