Ice conditions

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Ice conditions

Post by OntarioRider »

I know most of you are looking forward to soft water season but wondering if anyone has been out on the ice recently.
The reports have been slow so I am kind of curious. Thinking of heading out tomorrow - finally got some time.

The question isn't "Is there enough ice?". The question is "Will my auger make it through all this ice?????".
If you're gonna be stupid, you'd better be tough.

Was at Muskrat lake in Cobden Saturday and there was 3 ft of ice and still a whole lot of trucks driving on. Just remember use caution at all times anyways.

It was -20 last night. We're still making ice everyday. Crazy weather for March.

Speaking of freaking thick ice....
I had to shovel off the snow to get through the ice with my Jiffy on the weekend. Near three feet thick for sure. A first I have never had to drill that deep before this year.

Was on Lower Rideau Saturday. Everything tightened back up after the little bit of rain we got last week except for a few slushy ruts. Overall it was a dream to drive on.

There has been no impact on the lakes I fish and Ottawa River. Infact, the few warms days we had this year only made the ice thicker from the melting snow freezing in the evenings.

Get fishing!

It was rather slow in the morning compared to previous outings so we decided to try a couple new areas and did well. Always a fun day there.

I was on lower rideau today. Fishing was good.
Caught quite a few perch, including a few jumbo.
And then I switched my lure to a dropshot tipped with a worm. it must have attracted Bluegill as they were hitting hard for the next 45 minutes.
It was a good day on the ice!!
