Hello, heading down to the Salmon river (Pulaski NY) next weekend. Second time going, last year didn't go on a good day but my son and I had a good time. Does anyone have any helpful advice on which pool to try? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Salmon River
It's been a while since we've fished there.
I always found Whitakers in Pulaski my best source for information, help and advice. http://whitakers.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.cgi/index.html
I'm not trying to spend your money here. I fished almost every hole from Altmar to the lower reach before the lower reach became Douglaston Salmon Run. http://www.douglastonsalmonrun.com/
My favorite water was the lower reach. After Douglaston was formed we bit the bullet to buy a ticket to fish the lower reach. In short order we discovered that the limited number of daily access permits got us away from the throngs and water much less crowded with anglers. Do you need to fish Douglaston to have a good time? No.

Pop into Fat Nancy's shop and yak with the fellas there. Awesome shop that understands that helping people catch a few fish makes them come back.

Sportman's Pool but use the north shore access. From that side you can easily fish from above that pool down to the tail out. Mitch

Thanks guys for the information, son and I are looking forward to the weekend. Was at Fat Nancy's last year, they were very helpful and will head back to them again to get my licence and bait.

The Spring issue of the Fly-Tyer magazine has an article on the salmon river plus a map with all the names and locations of the various pools.
