while fishing on the St.Lawrence this weekend I was just amazed by the sheer number of smallmouths I saw. I have been on the river for a long time and never have I seen anything like the number of fish i saw the last two days. On one spot,that will remain nameless , my partner and I counted 50+ fish within sight out of the boat.

I have a question to throw out there. why the increase? water clarity, gobies, good spawning conditions?

Might not be that there's an increase but a grouping. Spawning time.

dunno you might be right. But like I said I have spent 40 years on the river and can't remember a bass population like we have now.

I usually dont give away spots but I will this time. It was between Cornwall and Prescott but a little closer to Prescott.

It's my understanding you just bought a GPS unit and was having troubles with the charting.
If you'd like, I could show you how to mark the way point...you wouldn't want to forget where that spot is!

Its been debated here before about bass #'s.

I think with the season restrictions it has permeated higher numbers of fish. Hopefully the regs for walleye will do the same.

However, it may come to be that we may have to change the seasons as we may end up with too many bass.

We were out last week for pike and could not keep the bass off our lines. Kept changing lures and spots but they seemed to hit anything and anywhere. We did notice that the size was larger than usual for that spot too.

TOO FUNNY. Phil warned me about the dang thing. I can mark waypoints, that is if I could get the frikken thing away from wanting to chart a course.
