Charleston lake bass

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Charleston lake bass

Post by Phishon »

Anybody else finding the bass fishing on charleston exceptionally slow this year? Throwing it all at em and can't seem to really get into em. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I knew it!…senkos, one here one there, drop shot gulp, one here one there, split shot rig a roboworm, one here one there, dragging a craw down deep, same story…the past few years up there have been very good with consistent smallie action, this year, not so much. Trying to see if it's me or if something "fishy" is going on. We've had tough years with lakers, I don't want to add the bass to the list too!

Have been fishing there since the late 1980's with our dad and continued after he passed away. Our recent experience has been the bass fishing at Charleston, at least in the fall, has been way way down for the last decade. Especially compared to fishing in the early 90's thru mid-2000's which was hot. Seems the concentrated weed beds surrounding Flat that used to hold countless large small mouth went away and the fish went with them. Fishing pressure probably contributes as well.

Octobers that used to be non-stop action of slobs were a mere pick, if that the last 4 falls. A shame really. So much so we don't even bother dealing with customs anymore and fish on the US side of the Larry.

I hate to be hating on charleston, it's just kinda sad that such a beautiful resource could be in decline. I guess it's just gonna be more of a challenge from here on out…game on!

The Laker population is very healthy according to MNR census last year and I was told they are doing another this year. Now I haven't been down around Flat Island for a while but last I recall the weed bed was in good shape. Don't know what could have happened to it.

That's awesome to hear the laker pop is very healthy, seems they pulled the plug on stocking just in time…just curious where you find those reports, I'd be interested in reading it, did they include other fish?

Not sure about that. I got that info from the owner of Lakeline Lodge. If you talk to Sean or Irene they may be able to help you. Cheers
