I recently moved from Cobden where we lived for about 7 years

The local old timers talked to me about a once great smelt fishery there---but there is a huge argument still going on

Which is is since the introduction of lakers the smelt fishing is nowhere what it once was. My neighbor who targeted them on the ice was lucky to get a couple

I gave up ice fishing some years back--so I don't have personal reports---but there was always a petition coming to my door for me to sign re: lakers and The Rat

Just a heads up so the kiddies are'nt too disappointed

I'll be fishing Muskrat Lake this coming Sat.
It will be my first time on the Lake.
What can I hope to catch and where should I set up.
I was going to drive on at the public launch ramp.
Any info would be great.

My dog loves the smelt. A guy was targeting them near us and my dog snatched a nice smelt from the poor guy and choked it down before I could get it from him. By the time I grabbed it back it was in two pieces with guts hanging out so Hunter got a nice treat.
