I finally got around to posting this as I'm sure a few will enjoy the pics....We spent the weekend in Syracuse NY last weekend and made the 20 minute trek down to Auburn.....to Bass Pro Shops!

We spent 3 hours in there on this past Saturday...a little overwhelming... :lol:

Price wise I wouldn't say it's all that much cheaper than say picking something up or ordering something from Paddletales or Baitcasters...the dollar is low now so it was pretty good...

To me the best part of all was the spectacle of it all....the huge fish tank....the mounted fish....all of it....

I did buy some stuff.....but didn't go crazy like I thought I would...

I picked up stuff that I wasn't even really looking for...either stuff I hasn't seen or just caught my eye... :lol:

RJ kind of sums it up when he mentioned it's the size, setting & product selection that is impressive (2 acres worth, I believe); it's not that you can't open a sporting catalog or patronize a favorite shop to get most or all of the same stuff BPS offers. It's just a cool place to check out. I didn't go crazy spending there, either, in the 2 visits to date. Getting kind of antsy for a return trip, though... 8) !!

I do a lot of business in the US and always try and hit the BPs, if nothing else just to marvel at the selection. Some good deals and interesting finds, but not the place where I buy my reg gear. It will be interesting to see how the prices are at the one opening in Vaughn Mills this fall and whether they have the same brands. Their house brands of plastics are great and I usually stock up on all their 4" white grubs (killer bait for just about any fish species you can want to go after). Important to support the local guys who take the time to know what works here in the Ottawa Valley and go the extra distance to help the fishing community, but always fun to walk in outdoor gear Nirvana.

Had the pleasure of doing the Spring Fishing Classic tour for BPS two years ago. Started out with the store in Orlando, up to Atlanta the following week then back down to Lauderdale. Had a week off that was spent in the Kissamee area then headed over to Dallas, up to Springfield, Back down to Houston (Katy store) then up to Columbus finishing up in Chicago at Gurney Mills. One of the best 10 weeks I ever spent on the road and the nice part was I was paid to do it.

It really is amazing the amount of inventory they carry within their system and how it varies from one region to another. Every store has monster bass in their aquariums, the one in Houston had a 14 pounder.

They truly are a world of their own and every serious fisherman or woman should visit at least once in their lifetime.

I won't be surprised if the store in T.O. outsells many of the US stores. I think you will see a lot of people travel good distances to visit it.

Memories like the corners of my .....

Oh my charge card still has stretch marks on it from visiting that shop but the pictures do bring back some fond memories for sure.

Got an invite to attend the opening of the TO store. I guess all BASS members will be getting tidy little discounts for purchases for at least the opening. They will also be supporting most of the Bassmaster events for next year which should add some nice prizes and gift certificates to the prize pools. Very Cool! :lol:

I bought an Abu Garcia baitcaster at the BP near Daytona, Florida, four or five years ago and I must say I could live there. I was only 14 or 15 and my parents had to drag me out of that store (I must say that my parents or our family friends didn't really want to leave either, but the store was closing).

The one that is opening in Vaughan is only about an hour away from my parent's place in Toronto, and I can't wait for it to open. I'll be travelling home just to spend a weekend there.

I found much of the BP rods and reels in the fishing section were comparable to most brand name equivelants too, and they've got a huge hunting section as well.
