after years of trecking through the bush....

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

after years of trecking through the bush....

Post by Chevy Champagne »

It finally happened!

But back to the start of it all!!
Left the door at 8am and after taking some skinny backroads and logging roads we arrived at lake number one fished it for a couple hours with nadda!
So were checking the maps out and notice that there is another smaller lake a short portage through the woods we talk about it a little and say ah the hell with it! lets go!

Little did we know that this "short" portage was through a creek bed up a crazy hill! oh well we made it this far lets go!
two trips back and forth one with the trolling motor, battery rods and net... little did we know we know how important it would be!
then the boat! No problemo
Image

after an hour or so after trying trolling casting and a couple other little tricks I finally had our first bite of the day on a chunk of worm under a float into a tree seen this huge buck shoot out and hammer it! could barley believe what i was watching and instantly turned to madi to get the net as it was a giant!

after a great fight of trying to keep her outa the trees she slid into the net!
my new pb! stretching the tape to 21" and man was it beautiful!

To say the least I was on top of the world! I have been going into the backwoods for 4 or 5 years now and i have never seen a fish like that!
a few pics and he was on his way

Still in shock about a hour later i flip a cast into the same tree and plunk down goes my float set the hook and those familiar headshakes were back!
this one was even bigger at 22.5" and a guestimated weight at around 4-5 pounds!

im still in shock!
hope you guys enjoyed the pics!

Wow congrats dude, I can't believe you're just catching them on a bobber. If I was you, that canoe would stay hidden in the bush near that lake forever.

WOW! Those are gorgeous fish Chevy. That hard work paid off for you. Big congrats man. Who says some of our back lakes can't produce dandy fish.
Are you going to send in a report to the MNR? According to Bobfly they will stop stocking lakes that they don't receive reports on, which really doesn't doesn't make a lot of sense to me that they base it solely on that.

Cheers

Wow!! Beautiful speckles!! Gotta love fishing like this in December.

Also props on the release! They'll have a much better chance of survival if you hold them horizontally rather than vertically through the gills.

Those have to be biggest Ontario specks I've seen a picture of in recent time, congrats!! Awesome pics too!

I do Smitty and still do.  They can but VERY rarely. Chevy won the lottery here!

No doubt Chevy nailed it Rob. Mind you he could have tossed a spinner by that tree and caught nada. So often with trout lakes you need to be there at the right time, with the right weather and the right lure or bait. A good lake might seem dead sometimes as has happened to EEF on that same lake.
Personally I think that there are more nicer fish in some of those back lakes than many folks realize, mostly because a lot of people just aren't talking about, and I sure don't blame them. I still hear some stories of some fine catches, we just don't see many posts about it. Mind you this does seem to apply more to the harder to access lakes, but not always. I also think that the more prevalent stocking of splake in this era leads to nicer trout being caught.

That being said,it's not like it used to be when access to many of these lakes was much harder. Nobody had quads back then, so it was a real rough 4x4 trip or a long walk and shore fishing on lakes like Sullivan, Mousseau and McCreary to name a few. I can recall countless trips into lakes like Perch, Oriole and the Quinns where we seldom saw anyone else. Then the roads got worse and worse and it got even harder to get to them. Now with newer roads all over the place and quads access is much easier which leads to more pressure on some of them for sure. Then there are others like Perch and Lavant Long that used to have roads in that nowadays are strictly quad only AFAIK.

Sorry to sidetrack your thread Chevy. Keep up the good work there lad.

Cheers
