My friends and I want to plan a weekend camping trip to Algonquin park. We want to go for trout, likely in early June. Going to b about 6 people going, hoping to find a campsite with good fishing . if anyone can point us in the right direction we would be greatful...PM me as well if u don't wanna post ur secret spots

Also we need a site with road access... No portages!

Early June sounds like the worst of bug season up there, which can be brutal. Also with road access to the lake don't expect near as good fishing than if you made your way further back to less pressured lakes. Just saying.
There certainly are some members here with far more experience up there, and there are some good Algonquin park forums if you do a google search.

Good trout fishing and easy access are kinda oxymoronic. There are some easy to walk to lakes in The Park with good trout, but few have campsites on them. Drive to lakes? Opeongo maybe, but you need a boat. Peck Lake does come to mind. Car camping there as I recall.

You could try Sunday Lake. It was stocked with 2,500 yearling splake in 2015, so they will be about 1 to 2 pounds in size by June this year. It's accessed by a 100 to 200 metre trail from a logging road, and camping is allowed. In my experience you must tip your spoons and spinners with some cut bait (minnows) to catch the splake from this lake.

Couple things that might help narrow down the search as well: we are coming from Ottawa and don't want to drive too far to save on the gas, and we are going to be shore fishing so probably streams and rivers would be better or some smaller lakes with shoreline access. We Don't need specific spots guys, thanks for giving them up though, still like to see fellow fishhawkers helping me out, as always!! Really we are just looking for a spot to park the car, pitch a tent and explore from there, thanks for the help guys... this is going to be a fun trip can't wait

For drive in access your best option would be to look into what is available in the North Frontenac Parklands, though you'll find that shore access to pretty much all of the trout lakes in the region to be pretty much non-existent. Some form of watercraft is a must to effectively fish any of the lakes with any sort of success.

Not sure how set you are on Algonquin park but have you considered North Frontenac Parkland camping. Depending on your vehicles there are some campsites you can drive to and then venture out from there to numerous trout lakes in the area like Wolfe, Mair, Hungry, etc. http://www.northfrontenacparklands.com/

Think there planning on shore fishing Smitty, none of those lakes will be productive from shore at all,a boat is needed if you want to catch, I fish most of them year round.

You would be better looking for some creeks up near south algonquin/Barry's bay etc..... At least you can walk up and down the creeks, tough go from shore with the trout if your on a lake.

After reading this I think you'd be better off staying home!

You can't fish a trout pond from shore and bugs in Algonquin or The Highlands at that time of year will carry you away. There are lakes and rivers with bass in them but they are closed. You should always check the regs. A few have pike but you'd be better staying home for that.

You could drive up the logging road between Griffith and Quadeville. There's Crown Land for camping, a couple of trout ponds and trout streams and the Madawaska River there can be fished from shore and it has walleye and pike although you will more than likely catch just bass.

No offense man, but always check the regs yourself for any licensed outdoor activity like fishing or hunting. One should never rely on any online forum post as a best practice. Again, no offense to anyone else either.

Fish the creek below tea lake dam. You can also bushwack and find hard to access sections all along the creek from there on for miles to the end of the park. Can be hard work, but you can find access along the road but as the brush grows, it's harder. Pack small rods, floats, worms and small spinners. Sorry, then the bugs will be brutal.

Otherwise, hike into the stocked lakes and you can find some shore spots...We fished Peck by canoe but looked like some shore fishing possible.
