Slow Start to the Season

Fished the Rideau system from 6am-4pm Saturday and had only one notable all day. Brought in by my buddy out near Kemptville. Launched in Kars and made our way all the way to the 416 bridge with some OOS fish hitting Meps 5s. Seeing similar results for this weekend all over, hoping it all picks up for everyone this weekend.

Well, you probably trolled right by us. We were out in my big, orange Coleman 17 between Baxter CA and the 416 bridge for several hours Saturday morning. We lost 1-2 smaller pike, nothing anywhere near as lovely as your beast, but we did hook up with a couple of very nice walleye.
As for the OOS biters, every time we got into less than about 6-7 feet of water they were taking whatever we had tied on, so we'd move out deeper. No electronics, though, so depth was a bit hit and miss.
Mainly using larger spinnerbaits and a big spinner blade / plastic trailer. Those walleye hit that spinner and trailer rig.
They surprised us. Never would've thought ole mooneyes would bite on that contraption. Hungry buggers.

Awesome fish! When do pike start hitting top waters or are they already hitting them?
