Good spots near Barry's Bay / Carson lake

We rented a cottage on Carson Lake just south of Algonquin. I had high hopes for big bass and walleye, but I'm not having much luck. Tried vertical jig go down deep this morning for Lake trout but it's hard to find the sweet spots in a kayak without a fish finder. Spoke to one of the locals and he said he's been trying for years for Lakers without any luck. Seems like it's a difficult Lake to fish.
There are tons of small lakes nearby but I have to prioritize as we have young kids and I really only have one or two days to myself.
Can anyone recommend a lake nearby? Bark Lake looks promising... Needs to have somewhere I can launch a large kayak.

Bark Lake is a big lake and being in a kayak would limit your choices. I'd check out the Madawaska River. The rapids should be full of smallmouth and at night or overcast days there'd be walleyes.

Do you have lead core set up for Lake trout trolling ? If so, I'll PM you a spot to get on some Lakers on Kamaniskeg lake. Otherwise , I've heard good things about the mad river in the combermere/Palmer Rapids areas (haven't been myself)

Thanks guys. I'll try the madawaska. How aggressive are the rapids? Will I be OK in a large kayak or am I better off shore fishing?
No trolling setup unfortunately.

Carson Lake is a fun lake, but I have not fished it sine the late 80's. The last time I was there, I did not get much luck from boat, but I did some bass and perch from shore. Made for one feed.

Yes, had good luck on the Madawaska. Found a great little spot just downstream of Palomer Rapids. Kids had fun playing on shore and I hauled in some decent bass and a pike.
