It is already August with fall right around the corner! and for myself and my partner only 2 more tournaments left . I guess it isn`t all a bad thing, fall brings monster fish regardless of the species you target. But it leads you to ask if you`re happy with your season so far, I mean how could you not be
even a bad run of fishing days still out weighs a lot of things. Putting the boat on the trailer at the end of a `bad`day of fishing still puts a smile on your face. For myself it was a good year decided to join BAA (Bass Anglers Association) with a new partner! Didn`t expect much as it was a new series and didn`t really focus on `winning`as much as we wanted to just have a good time. That it has been so far with meeting a ton of great people and being able to compete on some great waters some that I haven`t fished for a while (for a good reason) haha!
first event was held on opening day at white lake, with knowing this lake well and it being my partners first time we started fishing a shallow flat with clumps of cabbage just looking for a quick limit, we got our limit within the first 30 minutes per usual with white lake. We didn`t have to stray to far from that pattern as it was producing quality fish for this lake in the dying hours we hit a wind blown bank with deeper chunk rock that led to a 3+LB Largie that put us in a 5th place finish!
we slipped in the following event at the Big R but made up some ground for the 3rd event on the Ottawa river which is known for some huge sacks but also for a long day and a long day it was for sure the fish had lock jaw and were very far and few between. With only 4 fish being weighed in we still managed a 10th place finish with 11.18 LB and a 4.09LB largemouth
the 4th event held on the Rideau river out of Taylor park this was the event that we really focused on, we set out to focus on a really big bag that the Rideau can easily produce and from the start it was looking like it was going to be a great day both weather wise and fishing! we started on a good stretch of the river that doesn`t give up many fish but often some big gals it just didn`t pan out like it should have once we got a good bag we decided to hit that stretch again when the sun was up and ran into a FATTY that was on slim fast. we finished the day with 14.57 with a penalty but also big fish for 4.93LB for a 3rd place finish that helped us move up in TOY
5th event was on Muskrat lake which is a real hit or miss for us especially with the conditions we faced with a bad front and rain ALL day! It didn`t work out for us at all we started the day great with 3 solid fish including a near 4lb smallie we just couldn`t finish on a strong note. smallies didn`t work out for us and our move to the snake river wasn`t any better! I mean according to the pike they loved our drop shot
6th event is going to be held on the Miss followed by the 2 day classic on the Big R we have a lot of ground to make up sitting in 7th for TOY but regardless of the finishing result can`t be any happier with fishing a new series and being able to pay for the entry fees and to meet a ton of great people. here are a few of the nice fish this year so far
