First walleye ice fishing - Rideau River

Been having trouble getting on walleye this year without a flasher, but finally had some luck last Saturday. Our first spot came up with nothing. It had some current under the ice which may have blown forage farther down river. After some BBQ'd lunch we decided to pack up and drive to a new spot. We wasted some time in shallow water before opting to move to what we though might be the deepest water in the area, probably around 15ft.

That was the trick,

After jigging my Rapala Rippin' Rap close to bottom for a while I raised it midway up the water column when we finally had our first strike and my first winter walleye!

The bite turned on! This was around 5pm.

After going all day without as much as a nibble we landed 3 walleye and lost two at the hole... all within 20 mins!

The flurry of action at the end definitely made the trip in the cold worth it!

Welcome to walleye fishing.. that's' the way she typically goes... If we as anglers could only figure out where they came from, and where they're going.... we could stay on top of the school...

Congrats on the nice Walleye and Great pics. Try a Buckshot spoon tipped with a minnow as it has been a walleye killer in the last few yrs for a lot of us. Pound the bottom with it a few times then move up a ft and jig it.
