Hey guys,

Headed out in a few weeks for a few days to try our luck on Charleston Lake. Would like to get some lakers and will be trying to jig for them in some deeper water. Any bait suggestions for the lake? Any help would be awesome as I havent fished there before. Thanks guys.

Cheers,

Chris

I fish there often for Lakers, I personally use jigging spoons 2-3” in length, 3/4 to 1 ounce. Swedish pimple or something similar would get you on them. Using just spoons, 2 guys we usually hit double digits in the fish count in a morning of fishing. Hope that gives you an idea of what to use.

Crippled Herring jig by Rapala worked for us, but I haven’t fished Lakers there in a few years.

Hey Guy,

First of all thanks for all the tips, Swedish pimples and 1 ounce jugs with 4” bass tubes did the trick. Got 3 nice lakers, a 4lb a 3.5lb and 3lb.despite the rain it was a nice lake and we did pretty well.

Cheers

Nice catches, looks like a good time!
Any idea of the approximate depth you found them at? Were you bouncing them off the bottom?

The first two were caught on the east side of the lake in water depths of 150ft, however they were biting at 100feet. The last one was caught on the west side using a 1 ounce jig and a bass tube jigging at 100 feet (close to the bottom)
