Grand Lake - Carcajou Bay - Algonquin Park

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Grand Lake - Carcajou Bay - Algonquin Park

Post by OxtongueBasser »

I am planning a canoe fishing trip to Algonquin. I want to go mid august this year and was looking at eastern access points. Right now my number one option looks to be Grand lake access and staying in Carcajou bay.

Anyone familiar with the area? Any fishing tips and campground info at Carcajou bay would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Thats a nice part of the lake. There is a site on the left after going through the narrows, has a big sunning and swimming rock you can take in the afternoon sun. Did some of my best napping there a few years back. Recommended.

Its been a few years but advice anyhow.

Fishing can be tough in Algonquin unless you're willing to portage a few lakes inward. Stocked lakes can be good for trout. Use the fish-online tool and check around Grand there are some lakes with Splake that can produce some fish.

The the fishing for Smallies bass was good around rocky areas in grand. Trolling for lakers didn't work for us even slow and deep but still worth a try. I was told the base of falls at the end of the bay is good for trout but we failed to catch any despite a serious attempt. I have my doubts but pretty falls so worth a paddle. I recall we picked up some perch and found more up through the Spectacle lakes via short portage - no brookies though.

Have fun

Have been there and agree that Grand Lake is a poor lake for fishing. Lake Travers (walleye, muskie, bass, huge channel cats) or Sec Lake (bass, pike) are much better bets and aren't as busy either.
