Cornwall Shore fishing

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Cornwall Shore fishing

Post by Raptorwin »

Hi Everybody,

Great forum here. I moved to Ottawa last year and I've been trying to find some places to fish from shore.
I was wondering if anyone knows whether it's worth the drive to Cornwall to fish from shore?
I'm mainly looking for bass, pike, but it doesn't really matter.
I see on google maps that there's a canal off from the main river, and I'm thinking maybe there's some largies hanging around.
Any kind of input would be great.
Or, if you could make a recommendation to fish somewhere nearby from shore that'd be more productive, that'd also be appreciated.

Cheers!

Hi there,
I have seen them fish off shore just outside of Cornwall below the Saunders Dam (I believe that's what it's called). Easy to find on Google Maps.
I was carp fishing there at the time.
Watched some local lads land a couple of really nice walleye along the shore. We also did very well for spring carp there as well.
Hope this helps a bit.
I'll never apologize for being a hunter (or a fisherman)!

Hi,
You can easily fish from shore in Ottawa and around.
On the bike pass along Ottawa river there are few nice spots to fish from shore.
Best time is from late April to mid October, then the fishing from shore slows down since fish
Moves to warmer water in the depth. I use plunking and drop shot technique which is doing wonders.
Try to fish around Lemieux Island where current enters a pool of deep water.
Cast into the pool aside from current and you will catch pike, bass, catfish and walleye.
Hope this helps.

I've seen plenty of people fishing and catching just below the dam in Cornwall, most of them were carp fishing but I would imagine you can catch almost anything there depending on the time of the year!
Special Thanks to all my valued sponsors and my darling wife for all their support!

Hi, its me again

I am doing shore fishing on Ottawa river for at least 7 years. Victoria island in Downtown Ottawa is a great place to fish. However right now it is closed for repairs after spring floods. You can fish from shore on Ottawa river close to the bike path near Tunney's Pasture a bit to the East from NCC Bistro (look at Google maps).
Another good location especially in early spring after after ice out is Dechenes rapids. You can park at the parking lot and cast your plunking or drop shot fishing rod into the deep water. I caught there Pike in early spring and released. Catfish can be caught there till mid June depends on the level of the water.

Hope it helps.
Sincerely, Livebaitpro
