Has anyone been out on the Rideau , James Island up to Highway 16 bridge?
Just looking for ice conditions, I know there is lots of ice in certain spots not sure of the Rideau?

Was over the bridge on 416 last Monday. There were a few shacks out then.

I was fishing out from Gideon Park near James island and the ice is good.
I was on 9-10" of black and 5ish white.

Is the Rideau River decent for ice fishing closer to the Ottawa area?
ie. Eccolands Park?

Please be very careful heading onto the Rideau close to Ottawa. Especially this year! We have not had the sustained cold and water flows are higher than typical for this time of year. There is a lot of current going past eccolands, I reccomend paddling the area in the summer to get a sense of the river first. I have and I wouldn't think of going on the ice there. Current makes going through the ice much more dangerous.
I suggest looking at Long Island lock station. Most of the current flows around the other side of the island. People ice fish directly below the lock and above it. I have fished above it twice this year, but I had no luck.
I wish you luck this season, please be safe and stay well away from flowing water!
