A Bit of Laker Fishing

Well after some time off the water due to health issues, I finally got out in the boat last week for a little lake trout action on Big Rideau. Didn't catch anything to brag about but we managed 4 small lakers and had a couple other hits. Trolled a variety of spoons (clean and with small gang trolls) and ran bodybaits for a bit as well.

For round two I hit Charleston Lake on Thursday, marked a bunch of fish and had a few hits, but nothing in the boat. Oh well still a good day to be on the water.

Hopefully back out for round three soon.

If anyone wants to get out for a little social distancing fishing drop me a line.

Nice ! I struck out on Crow for Lakers this weekend. Marked a few, but couldn't get them to bite. What colours were working for you ?

Curious..the only way I really like Lake Trout is smoked (Indian Candy style)...is there something else you do with them ? Always looking for some new recipes.

We caught our fish on blue and silver spoons and silver and gold.

We smoke a lot for our trout, but also just BBQ some with maple syrup glaze or citrus.

Best of luck out there.

You can cure lake trout. Cut it into 1cm thick steaks. Put salt, lemon juice and dried dill (optional). Then put in a fridge (not freezer) for 24 hours - its ready to eat.
How much to put salt - cannot tell you - its all intuition. Better to put a bit more than less.
It is delicious...
