Shore Fishing for Splake

I took advantage of the unseasonable warm weather on Thursday (Nov 10th) and got out in the afternoon for Splake from shore. I was hoping that they would have moved up shallow where I can usually catch them at first ice. I managed to catch a single Splake on a 1/3 oz little Cleo in the silver/blue colour. This was probably my last outing for the open water season and now I'm starting to get my gear ready for the hardwater.

Here's a short video of the catch (you might recognize the lake): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CvmUdttCxE

Tight lines!

Those cross bred trout certainly are delicious..much tastier than a Lake Trout.
Got a few small Splake last week. Soaked them overnight in a kosher salt, brown sugar, maple syrup, and rye whiskey brine...then in to the smoker with apple and cherry wood chips. Perfect with a cold glass of ale.

I don't have a smoker, but that sounds delicious!
