Fishing In Ottawa

I’ve been trying to get myself an urban/close too home musky for a while now. Being in Ottawa I have to option Rideau river and Ottawa river. I decided to target Rideau river. Mostly fishing Mooneys bay down to Dows Lake.
I like to pack light and cover as much water as possible. There’s walking paths all around and a I walk them and fish as I’m walking.
Best technique I’ve found so far is just flipping soft plastics. You’ll get a good number of largies and smallmouth. If you’re lucky maybe a nice musky. Biggest thing I found is not to waste time fishing if they aren’t there. Keep moving and covering water. This Sunday was finally my day. I make a short cast just off the bank below a tree and feel a hard thump. Set the hook hard and I’m on. I new right away I had a musky. It thrashing on the surface a couple times then I get it close to the bank. So I hop in knee deep and grab the fish and bring it to the bank. Nice thing about being in the city I was able to get someone to take a picture for me haha!!
After a couple pictures I quickly got her back and she kicked off with lots of force. Maybe I’ll get her again in a couple years.
My tape measure was maxed out at 40”. If I had to guess I would say 44” but not 100% sure.
