Hip hip hooray! I'll be out checking ice in the area on Saturday or Sunday this weekend, so I'll report whatever I see if no one else gets out there by then.
Aside from the rain today, the forecast for the next 4 days looks real purdy.... Average temp for the next four days is gonna be around -10C so we should have some real good ice building!
I have made this threat "sticky" so it stays at the top of the forum. Please just remember to allows check ice conditions yourself as they can change day to day or hour to hour in some locations. When venturing out onto the ice, especially first ice or new locations spud your way out, don't fish alone, wear floatation.... use common sense and be safe..... NO ice is 100% safe.
Hear is to a great and safe ice season.... watch soon for some Fish-Hawk.Net contests and giveaways.
Did a drive by a week ago and noticed a couple things
1) pothole alley into the parking lot has been paved and has 2 shiny speed bumps installed - main lot is still gravel
2) just did a u-turn, but didn't look like the boulders lining the boat ramp had been moved as they have been in years passed, hope I just saw wrong and someone can confirm they are out of the way to improve on-ice parking
Can't wait to get out, but good comments above to stay safe!
Popped by this afternoon, the bay froze over Friday night quite a ways out - looks like the rocks got moved, and two rows of concrete barricades installed in the parking lot to delineate the space a little - might mess with trailer parking a bit
Hmmmm. That's weirdly unnecessary. I don't personally own a trailer but I can imagine the pain it'll be now to pull a trailer through there. Might be worth contacting the city about.
That's a first! I can't really see any improvement/good reason to put cement barriers in the middle of the parking lot..... I can only assume that they are trying to discourage people parking in the middle of the lot. If someone wants to call in to inquire you need to contact the NCC not the city....
All that said, a couple milder days coming up then the thermomotor is plunging down!!! Lets go!

Any idea as to why? Certainly won't make snow removal any easier....
Tim.
Looks like someone is trying to justify their existence by bringing in change that obviously will only make things worse. Someone's boss needs to be told of this so he can see it for himself. Someone doesn't realize that trucks and trailers will be frequent visitors to this lot.
On a side note, I wrote the NCC to inquire as to what the purpose of the barricades are. Also, politely pointed out that it will make towing a trailer more difficult...
the picture is a bit misleading, there is a gap in the "L" so you can drive between the two rows, but yeah its a weird breakup of space - thanks for reaching out to the NCC Tim!
Almost time! The weather is looking real good for the next couple weeks or so, fingers crossed . I had a couple friends up on the jock river in Richmond last weekend & they said they had about 5” of clear ice. Hoping that for us soon
