Rideau Lakes Ice Fishing

Post by JimW »

Headed out on the ice for the first time this season last Sunday to a local spot for a few hours with a fishing buddy. The weather was great, we did not even bring our huts.

The goal was perch and maybe a pike or two. It did not take long to land my first fish of 2025…. a beautiful chunky 3 inch perch. LOL

The perch action was hot the majority of the time we were out, most of the small, but fun on light gear, but we did manage some decent sized fish for a meal.

At our last fishing spot for the day I had a pike on the underwater sitting for over 15 minutes just staring at my bait without a strike, even after trying several different baits.

All in all a good time on the ice. A small jigging Rap tipped with a couple maggots caught most of the fish.

I really liked my new Garmin sonar and Aqua Vu camera set up, nothing fancy like Live Sonar, but it worked well.

Those are some nice looking perch and it's always a bonus when you don't need to drag out the hut!

I'm also digging the new Garmin/AquaVu setup!
