PETA is starting a "Fish Have Feelings Campaign"
Why can't these people get a life?
I think we need to get all these PETA folks together and invite them to a big Chiken, Rib and Fish bake.

What is truly amazing is just how quickly we managed to get 4 PETA links on this site. Damn propaganda is everywhere.
Nuke the whales!

All issues aside... this is an interesting excerpt.
The project was inspired by several recent scientific studies — widely reported in Britain but little-noticed in the United States — detailing facets of fish intelligence.
Oxford University researcher Theresa Burt de Perera, for example, reported that the blind Mexican cave fish is able to interpret water pressure changes to construct a detailed mental map of its surroundings.
"Most people dismiss fish as dimwitted pea-brains. ... Yet this is a great fallacy," wrote University of Edinburgh biologist Culum Brown in the June edition of New Scientist. "In many areas, such as memory, their cognitive powers match or exceed those of 'higher' vertebrates, including non-human primates."
Chris Glass of the Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences in Massachusetts led another recent study, showing how North Sea haddock developed abilities to avoid trawlers' nets.
"There's no doubt that fish of all shapes and forms are capable of learning fairly complex tasks," Glass said. "They can learn from their environment and experience."
Better starting thinking up some new strategies.....

Well I've got to take exception with this one -- it's no where near the same thing (as fish are friends, not food). I actually agree with this one and what it stands for. Note, I don't think this was originally done for PETA, but it looks like they hijacked it.
If you actually watch the movie, it isn't an anti-meat or extreme animal rights message at all. It is promoting small, community farms (as a meat and dairy source) versus factory farm practices. IE., go ahead and eat meat, just be thoughful about where you get it from.
It appears like the link at the end of the movie has been altered (it goes to a vegetarian promotion site in the link above), because the original version -- at the URL shown in the movie, at the bottom -- links to information on how meat/dairy consumers can choose alternatives to factory farm based product (i.e. small, more environmentally friendly farms).
Add the fact that the quality and flavour is better and I can't really find an argument against this philosophy.
hmm

It is another example of PETA's use of copyrighted materials without consent. They get away with it...
My feeling is commercial farming is required to meet our growing needs. It should be managed like any other resource.
Am I interested in how the animal lived before we harvested it? Perhaps... but the fact is not enough to change my eating/shopping habits.
They are also probably right about death rates of released fish (to some degree) and the pain, exhaustion and stress they endure. I still sport fish because on balance.... my needs outweigh these concerns.

PETA has it's place. A healthy society needs another side to the story.
Don't get me wrong...I love animals...their delicious!
