Ive fished from my kayak an a few occasions. What would you like to know.
Most of it is common sense really.

-2 or three part rod
-small tackle box
-clips for net and pliers on PFD
-If you're in moving water I'd put a clip on my paddle as well.

Ive fished from my whitewater boat which is only 6'4" so its possible in just about anything.

1st off "fishermoon" Welcome to the site!!!

Now Ive never done it myself, though have done ALOT of fishing from a canoe(Not the same) but.......I would say try to avoid the rapids,just for saftey sake.But try a (Like was posted) a smaller rod(pending on the species you r after)A vest under or, a pouch to carry your tackle with your PFD.I know they arent the strongest, but a colapsable rod might fit the bill aswell.Small simple tackle, combined with the stealth of a "Yak" would prob make you a force to be reconed with on the water A few small topwaters,inline spinners, and maybe the fly???Also you might be able to make a "Rod holder" on the side if you wanted to bring a heavier set-up.

The question really is..How do ya fit your fat butt in a Kayak

Welcome to the board.

I am certainly no expert in fishing from a kayak, but what has worked for me is to leave the cockpit open (no skirt) and troll but wedging the rod butt between the front centre support and my leg, and have the upper part of the rod hanging out the side or against my shoulder. The shoulder position works quite well as you can feel a hit or weeds on your hook/lure. I also snip the barbs off all the hooks so it is easier to release fish, especially toothy ones. I am strictly C&R, so have not had to deal with where to keep fish.

I would sure like to hear some advice/opinions on what to do when others have caught large, toothy fish - like a large pike or muskie.

I went on a five day kayak trip on the west coast of van. island this past summer. Incredible fishing! I rigged up my own set-up with a piece of steel rod lashed across my kayak just in front of my cockpit. I slid a spool of 30lb mono onto one end and built ridges with duck tape to make a track to keep the spool from falling off but to also alow it to unravel freely. I bought three buzz bombs. The entire set-up cost me $7.00 and we had fresh cod every night. I even landed a 10lb coho. Biggest thrill of my life was reeling that salmon in on a hand line in the midst of a fleet of charter boats. They just shook their head in disbelief and cursed at how much money they were paying for a guide. The other thing was that i made sure I had a leather glove on the hand that held the line. Good Times!
