So next year I would like to finally try my hand at muskie fishing.I will probably not be fishing record breaking waters and need to see exactly what setuo I will need to look into purchasing.
I presently own a Canadian Specialist MH 6"10 casting rod with a mid level diawa baitcasting reel whose model number presently eludes me. Will this get me by?
What is a good line and in what test, what about leaders?
I would appreciate any info you could offer to a newbie. I also plan to mostly cast as even though I know it is an effective method trolling bores me to death ( I really need to get over that i guess) I already own a whack of bucktails that I have caught many large Pike with, but what 2 or 3 lures to start with would some of you recomend?

Get some 80 lb. Power Pro or Tuf Line and a 10" Suick and a 10" Jake. You can cast both and when you start trolling you can use the Jake.

If you plan on doing alot of casting muskie killers work well and you can throw em all day. Also single or tandem single hooked spiinnerbaits for fishing heavy weeds, a jerkbait, a shallow crank a deep crank and topwater would have the bases covered. The canadian specialist is fine for casting but not great for trolling. Your reel must have capacity and a smooth drag. As for leaders stay away from anything crimped, I actually prefer solid wire for almost all techniques.
